What
is a sprig?
-Also see product page for
pictures and information.. ***And------->
A mondo
grass (regular) sprig is approximately 6-8 inches tall and has a small
root mass at the base. Six to ten blades come out of the base to form
a sparse umbrella.
How
far apart should I plant the sprigs?
For full coverage, I recommend
planting 3-4 inches apart and being patient. (Mondo
Grass (all) similar growth and generally doubles each year after becoming
established-it sends out sprigs from the root base)
For borders, I recommend planting every 2 inches apart.
Should
I plant mondo grass in sun or shade?(Answers
refer to all products)
Mondo
grass (all types) prefers shade or partial shade. It can be grown
in direct sunlight but the blades tend to yellow and the tips may darken-still
works well for a driveway or flowerbed border.
Will
mondo grass grow in my climate zone?(Answers
refer to all products)
All of
our products including mondo grass
(all types) grows best in
zone seven (7) and above. However, it can grow in zones 5 and 6 in protected
areas. (For example: up against a house or under a tree). They tend to
be more protected from the harsh elements in these areas.
How
big is a super-dwarf sprig and
how is it usually or best used in landscape gardens?
A
super-dwarf sprig only grows to 1 1/2 inches tall and is very thin
and sparse. (On the Products page, the picture of super-dwarf mondo grass
represents several years growth). It is used as a novelty plant or to
fill in between flagstone or bricks.
